Sprints!

Sprints - now there's a subject!

No faster than 138 bpms! Do you know how many members and instructors have moaned at me about that and quite frankly I don't get the problem! "But I wanna rip it up B" "I just wanna let myself go" "They wanna do it, see!"  What evverrrr! Jack up their ego's is the only thing their gonna do! Do you know that there is far less training effect in prolonged sprints. You'll always see those members whizzing along with absolutely no resistance on at all but wearing a big smile! Bums bouncing on saddles and boobs (men also!) joggling! Personally if I was cycling downhill I wouldn't bother turning the pedals - I'd just coast!

So the boring bit is health & safety - oh what evverrrrr I here you say, BUT are you gonna take the rap when feet slip from straps or knees are left out of control and cleats pop out? Are ya?? It's not because the Vibe Cycle training manual says not over 138 bpms just because Delvin said so but for a much bigger point that there is little or no control for most people at a greater speed. People, get over it!

I make a generalized points to the whole group - "everybody -  resistance on, no free wheeling", "what would be bouncing if you were naked?!" That one always gets a few, I see them digging  in tighter! Now your gonna say "I do all that and they don't take any notice". Well, instructors instruct, that means we give instructions. The presence you have in the room, the tone of voice that you use feeds them instruction. Delvin says that 'control of the group breeds respect' and I totally agree.

It is, at times, difficult to cajoil members to ride well. I don't generally growl or spit to make amendments with riders - I'll give a blanket group request like "resistance please" or "leave your ego's outside" love that one! I would back it up with a rhythm correction because those ego's just wanna go faster and then everybody feels concious if their off rhythm! Next comes picking them off one by one! "Hey!" they look up, I would offer an up turned hand to the colprit and say "give me some more" resistance that is! I'm not really a namer and shamerer unless I'm hormonal and someones really ticking me off! I have been known to stop the music, lecture and start the track again! I have been know to physically turn up the resistance of the sherker!

Yesterday we were sprinting for the first section of the track - a request for increasing resistance at two points as we built the 'drive stage'. One of the members bike had a problem so I gave them mine and I took there's as the bike issue wasn't that bad - all this in 30 seconds! I noticed the person turned down what had been my resistance for that bike and I had to add quite a bit to their choice of resistance!! This person was what I call a 'front rower' and been for years. Needless to say I had a 'chat' with the group at the end of that piece! Not a name and shame, just a chat on what we were endeavouring to achieve.

If it is supposed to be a walk in the park then we would have gone to the frigging park!!

Without beat and rhythm there is no Vibe.........
